In Country Roads: Memoirs from Rural Canada, writers from Victoria,  BC, to St. John’s, Newfoundland, reflect upon their experiences growing up in rural Canada. The anthology features stories by singer-songwriter George Fox, NHL coach Brent Sutter, actor Gordon Tootoosis, and award-winning writers such as Sharon Butala, Roch Carrier, Wayne Johnston, and Rudy Wiebe.

Some people who grew up in the country never wanted to leave their rural communities, while others  couldn’t wait to escape  rural hardships and head to the city. Despite these differences, the writers in this collection share one thing in common: their rural upbringings profoundly shaped their identities and their lives. The 34 memoirs in Country Roads are sometimes humorous, sometimes heartbreaking, but always engaging. Click here to read the introduction to Country Roads.
